rhel-5.2-server-i386-dvd

The Test system:

200MHz Intel 55C (Pentium Processor with MMX Technology)

Packard Bell 685MX Motherboard with the 430VX Chipset.

128MB 60ns EDO RAM

2.0GB Seagate Hard drive (which has nothing to do with
Linux, believe it or not) Set to Master on IDE0

512MB Quantum Hard Drive, set to Slave on IDE0,
Partitioned as followed (Using Partition Magic Boot disk)

232MB Linux  File system, to be used as / (root, to
all the Linux Natives)

36MB Linux Swap Partition, to be used for Hard Drive
Swapping.

244MB FAT32 Which I use for my Windows 98 Swap file, and
the files to start Linux from DOS MODE, and about 180MB of FREE SPACE

Lite-on 16X ATAPI CD ROM set to Master on IDE1

The Installation

After doing all my research I partitioned my hard drive with the use of the Partition Magic Boot disk that
can be made with the 4.0 version of the software (to my knowledge, but there may be
previous versions that can do the same).  I then, popped in my Red Hat 5.2 Setup Boot
disk provided from the CDROM:/DOSUTILS folder of the Red Hat 5.2 CD ROM I ordered from Cheapbytes, and I also put in the Linux CD ROM into
my CD ROM Drive, and started the computer.

Right off the bat, I was faced with a scary looking bunch
of text, scary meaning it was more colorful that I expected.  It was very easy. Being
I’m an expert, (laugh now, then read on) I typed in “Expert” at the prompt, and
it continued to boot into the Linux Setup Program.

First, the setup program, asked me what language I was
using, in English. Unfortunately, the language names were in English, not in the languages
they represented.

After I selected “English” as my language, it
then asked what type of keyboard I had.  I chose US, being it seemed the most
sensible, being I’m American.

Next, it asked me where I’d like to install from.  I
could have chosen to install from a Local CD ROM (which I did) from a partition on my Hard
drive, from a FTP Site, or from a NFS image.  I chose Local CD ROM, being that’s
where the Linux files were.

It then asked me if I had any SCSI adapters, and being
this system is a P.O.S., I told it I didn’t.

Next up, was the disk partitioning.  Being I had
already set everything up with Partition Magic, I just skipped this part.

Next, it asked me which partition was to be my Swap
partition.  I told it to take the last partition (the 36MB one) on my Slave drive
(hdb6).  It then preformatted the partition for me, and went on to ask me some more
questions.

The next thing it asked me, was what part’s of Linux I
wanted to install on my Hard Drive.  I chose the basic things.  XFree86 (the
thing that’s like Windows), DOS/Windows connectivity (so I can be connected to the DOS and
Windows parts of my computer) and the games (which really suck @$$……they are games
that are played on a Mac Classic for god’s sake…THEY SUCK!)

It then proceeded to copy 196MB of data, from the CD ROM,
onto the Hard drive.  I then proceeded to go to the kitchen and get myself a great
roast beef on sourdough sandwich (mmm…mmmm….good).
